Carlsberg shrink packs with handles

ProGrip SX120 automatic carry handling applicating systems have recently been supplied and installed to a number of Carlsberg brewing facilities in Europe for their shrink-wrapped product ranges. The carry handle systems are configured to apply self adhesive carry handles either to the top of the pack or to the side of the pack across the narrow edge.

Available in either single or double lane execution, the SX120 has an output capacity of 130 or 260 packs per minute, depending on machine variant. Suitable for applying handles with width from 25mm to 35mm, in either paper or foam backing.

Project Automation also offer a selection of options to suit all applications such as stainless steel machine construction, ethernet connection or remote modem diagnostic control, automatic splicing systems and even automated adjustments if required. Using the patented Project ‘star’ applicating system, Project AE can ensure and guarantee precise and consistent handle application on a wide variety of products such as bottles, cans, soft or flexible containers from low to very high speed.

Self adhesive carry handle

Penn Packaging, with the specialist partner Project Automation, recently completed the supply and installation of an automatic carry handle applicating system for flexible baby care products. The envisaged solution was to eliminate the need for any secondary packaging, such as shrink-wrapping or bagging, and create a bundle for multiple purchase using just the self-adhesive carry handle.

The PROGRIP handle applicator manufactured by Project Automation is a stand-alone machine. Therefore it can be placed anywhere within the production line. The basic design of the PROGRIP is a one-line machine. An output of 30 up to 140 packets per minute is possible. Typical handle applicators are also available as a 2-line or 3-line machine, according to the production or layout situation.

Products, arriving narrow edge leading and on their base, are turned and rotated and accumulated to the required formation, i.e. 1×4 or 1×6. Using the patented Project AE applicating system, pre-laminated self adhesive handles are then applied to the product formation in the required position and cut to length.
